The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) developed a Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) in 2007 and is currently in the process of updating the plan. The SWMP contained a number of recommended key actions, one of which was to prepare a Strategic Communications Plan. In 2014, the SLRD hired a local team of communication and waste management experts to develop the plan, which was approved by the SLRD Board at its October 27, 2014 meeting. This included the approval of the new icon and tagline seen above, which will now be rolled out in various communications materials across the SLRD. The Board also approved the Food Scraps Diversion Campaign as suggested in the Communication Plan as part of the ongoing Solid Waste Management Plan work plan.

In August 2015 the SLRD hired a communications coordinator to implement the inititiatives in the Stratetic Communications Plan and to work closely with regional waste managers to achieve shared waste reduction goals.
