The Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MOTI) has advised that the Telford Bridge over Connel Creek, located on the Highline Road about 13 km southwest of Seton Portage (SLRD Area B) and 14 km north of D'Arcy (SLRD Area C), will be replaced this fall and winter.
The Telford Bridge Replacement Project will have a construction period of November 28th 2016 to February 27th, 2017.
The complete road closure will commence as early as December 1st, 2016 until February 27th, 2017.
In the following week there will be a more finalized date of initial closure.
This structure is located at the crossing of Connell Creek approximately 15km North East of D’arcy and 14km South West of Seton Portage on the Highline Road. The successful contractor is allowed a maximum consecutive total road closure of three (3) months. This will be a complete road closure with no traffic (pedestrian or vehicular) allowed at this crossing. Residents on either side of the structure will be required to use Road 40 and Highway 99 during this time.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in constructing a safer structure for this challenging area.
No pedestrian or vehicle traffic will be permitted for the duration of the project. Residents on the north side of Connel Creek (Seton Portage side) will be required to use Mission Mountain Road to Road 40 and on to Lillooet. Residents on the south side of Connel Creek (D'Arcy side) will need to travel south through D'Arcy to access Pemberton Portage Road.
Project timing and rationale:
The Telford Bridge Replacement project is necessary to address present safety concerns and to accommodate legal loading and increased vehicle widths. A winter construction schedule was chosen in order to minimize disruption to the travelling public; there is significantly less traffic on the Highline Road during the winter months. As well, fire season will be avoided, where this route may be needed for evacuation purposes.
