Pemberton Valley Recreational Trails Master Plan

The Pemberton Valley Recreational Trails Master Plan (Trails Master Plan) provides a framework for the management and maintenance of trails within a designated area within the unceded traditional territory of the Lil’wat Nation, the Village of Pemberton (VOP) municipal boundary, and a portion of Electoral Area C within the Squamish- Lillooet Regional District.

The Plan includes a review of the existing trail network, background on the physical, ecological, and cultural characteristics of the area, the relevant regulations and legislation pertaining to trails on Crown land, and community perception of current opportunities and challenges. From this foundation it offers a series of recommendations, management strategies to address trail development and maintenance, user conflict, and funding, as well as an implementation plan to guide the application of the recommendations.

The plan was developed collaboratively by the SLRD, Lil’wat Nation, Village of Pemberton, Pemberton Valley Trails Association, Recreation Sites and Trails BC, with input from a variety of trail user groups in the Valley.

The 2020 Trails Master Plan is an update to the 2009 Trails Master Plan and was undertaken to reflect the significant growth in trail usage and construction, concerns surrounding the preservation of cultural and environmental values, as well as the increasing pressure from private development.

Sea to Sky Trail Master Plan

The Sea to Sky Trail Master Plan was finalized in 2009 by Cascade Environmental Resources Group.

The route from Squamish to Whistler is 90% complete, with 8 km remaining to construct. Travellers can choose to use Highway 99 (with extreme caution) if they wish to link the completed sections of trail.

The route from Whistler Village to D’Arcy is 60% complete, with a plan to finish the Whistler to Pemberton section in 2015 and on to D’Arcy by 2017.

Sea to Sky Corridor Recreation Trail Strategy

The Sea to Sky Corridor includes an extensive network of over 700 km of recreational trails.  The proximity of these trails to Sea to Sky communities offers residents and visitors countless social, economic and environmental benefits.  The Sea to Sky Corridor Recreation Trail Strategy is a provincial initiative which provides strategic direction for everyone working towards an authorized, sustainable and environmentally sound trail network. The strategy also offers management direction in addressing critical and immediate challenges of the network.
