Regional Growth Strategy

Regional Growth Strategy

The Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) is a long-term planning project that deals with growth management (south) and economic recovery issues (north) over a 20-year period for the SLRD area.  The RGS is being created over a multi-year period, and is a collaborative process that includes ongoing consultation with local, regional, provincial and federal governments, the public and First Nations.

The SLRD RGS is a "high level" approach to planning which identifies and prioritizes goals across the region that meet common social, economic, and environmental objectives.  It will examine regional issues such as land use, transportation, housing, economic development, social issues, ecological stewardship (air & water quality), parks and natural areas, and regional services.

What is the current status of the RGS?

The RGS bylaw 1062 has received first and second readings by the SLRD Board.

The RGS Bylaw has been referred to all member municipalities, neighbouring regional districts and affected parties for acceptance as per the Local Government Act ("LGA"). All affected local governments have accepted the Bylaw, except for the District of Squamish. The RGS process is now in a Non-Binding Dispute Resolution Process, as per Section 859 of the LGA.

If amended, the RGS bylaw 1062 will need to be re-referred to all affected local governments for acceptance, before it can be considered for third reading and adoption.

For more information on the status of dispute resolution, contact lgriffith@slrd.bc.ca.
