SLRD offers free FireSmart program in Electoral Areas

Rebates available for a limited time, to eligible property owners

Pemberton, BC– With support from the Union of BC Municipalities, through the Community Resiliency Investment Program, and help from locally-based Landscope Consulting, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is kicking off its 2023 FireSmart program with free activities for all Electoral Area residents.

The SLRD is encouraging every resident to take part in FireSmart activities and help mitigate the risk of wildfire on their property and in their community.

Expression of Interest - FireSmart Coordinator and Local FireSmart Representative Services

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is seeking interest from qualified persons with the appropriate certifications, experience, and expertise to concurrently provide FireSmart Project Coordinator and Local FireSmart Representative services within each of the SLRD’s four Electoral Areas (A, B, C, and D). Proponents with local knowledge, existing stakeholder, and community relationships within each of the electoral areas are preferred to facilitate a higher level of buy-in to the residential FireSmart program.

Britannia Beach Play Park Replacement Project

The SLRD is building an expanded playground at Britannia Beach. Construction on the new Britannia Beach Play Park is set to begin the week of September 28, 2022. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.

The play park design incorporates resident feedback, and includes an expanded play area with improved accessibility, encouraging creative play and exploration, with a mix of traditional and natural elements.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is seeking interest from qualified persons with the appropriate certifications, experience and expertise for the provision of FireSmart Project Coordinator and Local FireSmart Representative services within eacho f the SLRD's four electoral areas. 

Services will involve the coordination of the SLRD 2022 FireSmart Community Funding and Supports project on a fixed-term contract from August 1, 2022 - March 14, 2023.

SLRD Board Statement

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Board of Directors is deeply saddened by the passing of David Rittberg, former Chief of the Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department (BBVFD).

Mr. Rittberg served on the BBVFD from 2007 – 2021, spending the last five years as Fire Chief, before retiring in 2021 and turning over the reigns of the department to his longtime colleague, Rob Nicholls, who had previously served as Deputy Fire Chief.
