State of Local Emergency Declared

SLRD Declares State of Local Emergency

July 6, 2021

A State of Local Emergency (SoLE) has been declared for Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Electoral Areas A, B, C and D in response to the wildfire emergency in the SLRD.

Currently there are wildfires burning in three of the four SLRD Electoral Areas, with two areas in Electoral Area B on Evacuation Order and one on Evacuation Alert. There is ongoing high to extreme risk anticipated for the rest of the 2021 wildfire season.

Howe Sound East and Electoral Area D Housekeeping Amendments – Development Permit Areas

The SLRD Electoral Area D Development Permit Areas (DPAs) require updating to address new development concerns, legislative changes, and current planning practices. The Howe Sound East developments in particular require more extensive Development Permit Areas to guide development in these new neighbourhoods.

Gold Bridge Water System Water Restrictions

 

Gold Bridge Water System users, thank you for your cooperation in conserving water use over the past week these last couple of weeks. The reservoir’s water level has returned to the minimum elevation required for sprinkling and irrigation (Updated July 8, 2021).

Please limit your use of water for sprinkling and irrigation to the following times:

  • 7 AM to 9 AM (Day)
  • 7 PM to 9 PM (Night)

 

Transfer Stations Resume Regular Operations

All Squamish-Lillooet Regional District operated Transfer Stations resume regular activities June 30, 2021.

To ensure the safety of our staff ALL Squamish-Lillooet Regional District operated Transfer Stations are CLOSED to residents today.

The situation will be reassessed on a daily basis.

Open fire prohibition scheduled for Coastal Fire Centre

The Province has announced that effective at noon Pacific Time on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, most open burning activities will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. This prohibition is being enacted to help reduce wildfire risk and protect public safety.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction with the exception of Haida Gwaii. Category 2 and 3 open fires will not be prohibited in Haida Gwaii.

Notification of Low Level Flying over the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District

Low-level flying in many areas of the SLRD

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has been notified that Talon Helicopters will be performing low level flying for LiDAR mapping with BC Hydro from June 7 - 30, 2021 during daylight hours, per Special Authorization issued by Transport Canada. 

There will be approximately four days of work with flights estimated to be approximately five hours per day for the entire line. There will be no activity on the ground related to this flight.
