The SLRD FireSmart team is dedicated to empowering all residents to protect their properties and their community from the risks of wildfire.
Seasonally and pending on grant funding, initiatives and activities are offered to help SLRD communities in their wildfire mitigation and preparedness efforts.

FireSmart Home Assessments (April-October 2024)
Property owners in the SLRD can receive a free FireSmart Home Assessment conducted by a qualified Local FireSmart Representative (LFR). The Assessment identifies wildfire risk specific to the property and provides recommendations for reducing those risks.

Please note that a Home Assessment request can be made anytime, but it may take multiple weeks for a FireSmart Representative to visit your property, depending on demand.

FireSmart Rebate Program (April-September 2024)
SLRD homeowners can receive financial compensation in the form of a rebate for completing mitigation activities on their property, based on recommendations detailed in their FireSmart Home Assessment.

STEP 2 Start FireSmarting your home or property
- Review your Recommended Activities-Work Hours Form
- Take “before” photos prior to commencing the work
- Work on a few or all the activities
- Track worked hours on the form
- Save receipts and invoices for eligible costs
- Take “after” photos of the work completed in each area
STEP 3 Apply for a Rebate (within 60 days of the assessment date)
- Complete and submit the Recommended Activities-Work Hours Form
- Submit “before” and “after” photos of completed activities
- Submit any applicable invoices or receipts
- Get your Rebate!

Yard Waste Disposal (April-September 1, 2024)
From April 1st to September 1st 2024, FREE yard waste disposal is available for SLRD residents at the following locations:
- Gold Bridge Transfer Station
- Lillooet Landfill & Recycling Centre
- Pemberton Transfer Station (May, June, October)
- Britannia Beach and Furry Creek (March 1 - May 31)
SLRD FireSmart Neighbourhood Champions
Become a FireSmart Champion for your neighbourhood today!
A FireSmart Neighbourhood Champion is a volunteer who rallies their neighbours, helps organize and communicate about FireSmart activities, and inspires their community to join in on the action and reduce wildfire hazards. Passionate about wildfire preparedness and mitigation, Neighbourhood Champions act as points of communication with the SLRD FireSmart program and the communities.
We are actively seeking champions in the following communities:
- Area B: Fountain Valley, Seton Portage, Hwy 12 area
- Area C: Devine, Pemberton Meadows
- Area D: Ring Creek, Britannia Beach
