SLRD FireSmart Program

The SLRD FireSmart Program is dedicated to enabling everyone who lives, works and recreates in the SLRD to be aware of the FireSmart principles, understand their role, accept responsibility and take action to protect their properties and their community from the risks of wildfire.

Seasonally and pending on grant funding, free initiatives and activities such as Wildfire Community Preparedness Days, FireSmart Canada Neighbourhood Recognitions, Residential FireSmart Rebate Programs and Vegetation Management initiatives are offered to help all SLRD homeowners and communities in their wildfire mitigation and preparedness efforts.

SLRD FIRESMART SEASONNAL PROGRAMS

Receive a FREE FireSmart Home Assessment (April-Sept. 2023)

Starting this April, all residential property owners in the SLRD are eligible to receive a free Home Assessment conducted by a Local FireSmart Representative (LFR).

The assessment provides homeowners with a detailed report identifying risk factors specific to their homes and property, a list of recommendations for creating defensible space and useful tips for FireSmart landscaping, home hardening and emergency preparedness.

FireSmart Rebate Program (April 2023)

For a limited time, SLRD residents can get up to $500 in rebates for completing FireSmart activities on their primary residences, based on recommendation from a qualified Local FireSmart Representative (LFR). 

How to obtain a rebate:

STEP 1: Book a FREE FireSmart Home Assessment by emailing firesmart@slrd.bc.ca or by calling 604-894-6371 x 262

STEP 2: Complete some or all the FireSmart activities recommended by the LFR within 60 days of your assessment date. Log your work hours and save your receipts.

STEP 3 Book a post-work visit with our LFR. Submit a completed copy of the Recommended Activities Form and all applicable receipts. Get your rebate!

The number of rebates available is limited and will be issued on a first come first served basis.
