The BC Ministry of Forests assumes responsibility for fuel management projects on crown land within the SLRD.
The Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction (CLWRR) program is administered through the Ministry of Forests in collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), Natural Resource Regions and Districts, BC Parks, and Mountain Resorts Branch. Funding for this program comes from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Community Resiliency Investment.
Suitable projects within the SLRD are identified through each electoral areas' Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan to ensure a clear, consistent, transparent and inclusive process.
Wildfire Fuel Mitigation Project Maps and Status
The following maps provide an annual update on wildfire fuel mitigation projects conducted by the BC Ministry of Forests on provincial land surrounding communities within the SLRD.
In July 2025, the SLRD Board directed staff to request a written update each year from the Ministry’s Cascade and Sea to Sky Resource Districts that can be shared with the Board and the public. The Board received an update on wildfire fuel management projects conducted by the BC Ministry of Forest on provincial land around high-risk communities within the SLRD at the Board meeting on February 25, 2026. The maps show the status of fuel treatment units identified in each Electoral Area’s Community Wildfire Resilience Plan, including areas that have been completed, are underway, or remain planned for future treatment. Updates will continue to be requested each fall, aligning with the Ministry’s Wildfire Risk Reduction planning cycle.
