Project Overview

In July 2019, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) began moving ahead with the development of a Housing Need and Demand Study for all SLRD electoral areas. This plan is being developed following a successful funding application to the BC Rural Dividend Fund (Fifth Intake). Urban Matters has been engaged to lead the study.

The SLRD has been experiencing growth pressures and escalating housing costs in recent years which has led to a lack of available and affordable housing. Anecdotally, families are leaving the region and businesses are experiencing worker shortages and difficulties in finding staff to fill available jobs. The Housing Need and Demand Study will have three main components:

  • Current Need Analysis
  • Demand Analysis
  • Supply Analysis

Community Engagement

Robust community engagement will be central to the development of an effective study. Workshops are planned for early October 2019, and an online survey is open until October 28, 2019. Keep an eye on this page and SLRD social media for updates.

Take the Survey!

We want to hear from you! Join us for one of the following Community Workshops and fill out the survey above.

Please arrive no later than half an hour after the workshop start time to ensure you get to see the consultant presentation on the project work to date and participate in the group discussions.

All workshops will follow this format:
