The Housing Need and Demand Study was completed in February 2020, and is available below:
In July 2019, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) began moving ahead with the development of a Housing Need and Demand Study for all SLRD electoral areas. This plan was developed following a successful funding application to the BC Rural Dividend Fund (Fifth Intake). Urban Matters was engaged to lead the study. The SLRD gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
The SLRD has been experiencing growth pressures and escalating housing costs in recent years which has led to a lack of available and affordable housing. Anecdotally, families are leaving the region and businesses are experiencing worker shortages and difficulties in finding staff to fill available jobs. The Housing Need and Demand Study has three main components:
- Current Need Analysis
- Demand Analysis
- Supply Analysis
Robust community engagement was central to the development of an effective study. A series of Community Workshops, key stakeholder interviews, and an online survey were conducted in October 2019.
The Housing Need and Demand Study was presented to the SLRD Board of Directors at their meeting of January 29, 2020, and was given approval.
