Wind warning issued for Howe Sound (November 7, 2017)

Note from the SLRD: The Wind Warning below was isued by Environment Canada (4:30 a.m., November 7) and impacts SLRD Area D and the District of Squamish. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.


Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A ridge of high pressure over the BC interior in combination with an area of low pressure off the BC coast will produce strong outflow winds of 90 km/h through the mainland inlets and valleys of central and north coast later tonight and Wednesday. Outflow winds through Howe Sound will reach 70 km/h early Wednesday morning. The winds are expected to ease Wednesday night as the systems weaken.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
