SLRD Declares State of Local Emergency
July 6, 2021
A State of Local Emergency (SoLE) has been declared for Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Electoral Areas A, B, C and D in response to the wildfire emergency in the SLRD.
Currently there are wildfires burning in three of the four SLRD Electoral Areas, with two areas in Electoral Area B on Evacuation Order and one on Evacuation Alert. There is ongoing high to extreme risk anticipated for the rest of the 2021 wildfire season.
The SoLE is the legal instrument by which the SLRD implements Evacuation Orders and any other area restrictions recommended by the RCMP or BCWFS in connection to the ongoing wildfire emergency response.
Under the current legislation, a SoLE must be renewed every seven days. This SoLE will be extended for as long as needed.
