The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) will install new signage in two locations on the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road advising of the newly quantified debris flow risks on the Catiline Creek fan. The signage will replace two signs installed by the SLRD last fall. Signs will be erected on both sides of Catiline Creek so that people travelling from either direction are aware of the debris-flow risks and the corresponding recommendation made by the SLRD that people NOT occupy sites located within the purple and red zones, as shown on the attached map. Placement of the new signs will coincide (as much as is practical) with the boundaries of the red zone as outlined on the risk zone map.

The SLRD has received permission from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations for the installation, which is expected to take place within the next few weeks. The SLRD sent letters to site owners of both Lillooet Lake Estates and Heather Jean Properties in March informing them of the Board’s decision to issue a Do Not Occupy recommendation to those sites located within purple and red risk zones. Copies of the letters can be found here

The signs will consist of an updated map depicting the newly quantified risk zones as outlined in the January 22, 2015 Catiline Creek Debris-Flow Hazard and Risk Assessment final report, along with the following warning message:

Warning to Residents and Visitors of Debris-Flow Risk & Do Not Occupy Recommendation:

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District recommends that people do NOT occupy sites located in the PURPLE and RED zones, as shown on this map. These sites have risk levels that exceed existing risk tolerance criteria as outlined in the Catiline Creek Debris-Flow Hazard and Risk Assessment final report dated January 22, 2015, which is available at www.slrd.bc.ca.
