Walkway to Playground, Playground and Walking Trail to Close April 3, 2020

In order to respect the Provincial Health Officer’s requirement for physical distancing and to limit the size of groups gathering during the COVID-19 pandemic, please be advised that effective April 3, 2020 and until further notice, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) will temporarily close areas in Britannia Beach, within the SLRD’s jurisdiction, specifically the paved walkway to the playground, the playground and the walking trail between Copper Drive and Goat Ridge.

This is in response to the SLRD’s observations in recent days of activity by large groups on the trails and many people not maintaining the 2 metre physical distancing requirement.

The Provincial Health Officer has recently urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, in particular to smaller communities where COVID-19 transmission could have significant implications for the community.

Therefore, the  SLRD’s goal with these temporary closures is to deter people from travelling to the area from other communities and visiting the trails in large groups. The SLRD encourages local residents to continue to exercise, as recommended by the Provincial Health Officer, however please practice physical distancing and avoid gathering  in groups.
