In order to respect the Provincial Government's requirement for physical distancing, and to limit the size of groups gathering, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) will temporarily close Furry Creek beach access and dyke trails, effective today.
The SLRD has been monitoring activity on the trails during the COVID-19 pandemic and has observed that many people are not maintaining a safe socila distance of two metres or more.
We are therefore taking this measure to help flatten the curve in the growing number of COVID-19 cases. Our goal is to deter people travelling to the area from other communities and visiting hte beaches in large groups, which is what we have been observing in recent days. We encourage local residents to continue to exercise, as recommended by the Provincial Health Officer, however it is imperative for all to maintain the physical distancing practice of keeping at least two metres between people and not gathering in groups.
The closure will include the two public parking lots and public trail access to the dyke along the waterfront effective March 31.
