In early December, the SLRD was presented with an award from BC Creates recognizing the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District's contribution to the province's film and television industry.

Above: Squamish-Lilloet Regional District CAO Lynda Flynn accepts an Award of Recognition from Creative BC's Motion Picture Industry and Community Affairs Manager, Marnie Orr, on behalf of the region, for Outstanding Contributions to the Success and Sustainability of British Columbia's Film & Television Production Industry.

BC Creates was launched in April 2015 by a collective of creative industries - the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia (ABPBC); Canadian Media Production Association-BC (CMPABC); Creative BC; DigiBC; the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC (MPPIA) and Music BC Industry Association (MusicBC).

The goal of BC Creates is to celebrate and engage British Columbia in the story of the Province’s vibrant creative economy and serve as a continuing showcase for BC’s film & television, music, digital media & technology, and book & magazine publishing sectors.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District is, in our admittedly biased opinion, full of jaw-droppingly beautiful locations. The film and television industry seems to agree. Several productions have been shot throughout the region over the past few years, including The Revenant, If I Stay, The Lighthouse, A Perfect Wedding, Angels in the Snow, Clubhouse, Summer Intern and the Magicians, as well as a host of television commercials, including several car commercials that have product-placed vehicles against the region's stunning scenery.
