NOTICE OF WAIVING OF PUBLIC HEARING ELECTORAL AREAS A, B & D

Area A, B & D Retaining Wall Amendments & House Keeping Amendments

Pursuant to Section 464 of the Local Government Act, this is to provide notice of intent of the Squamish-Lillooet
Regional District to amend Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area A Zoning Bylaw No. 670, 1999, Area B Zoning Bylaw No. 1300-2013, Area D Zoning Bylaw No. 1350-2016 in a manner consistent with the Electoral Area A Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 608, 1996, the Electoral Area B Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1073, 2008, and the Electoral Area D Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1135-2013.

Public Notice is hereby given in accordance with Section 467 of the Local Government Act that a Public Hearing will be waived regarding the following bylaws:

1. Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area A Zoning Bylaw No. 670, 1999, Amendment Bylaw No. 1692-2020.
2. Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area B Zoning Bylaw No. 1300-2013, Amendment Bylaw No. 1693-2020.
3. Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area D Zoning Bylaw No. 1350-2016, Amendment Bylaw No. 1694-2020.

PURPOSE OF BYLAWS 1692-2020, 1693-2020, and 1694-2020:
The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District is in the process of updating the above-noted Electoral Area bylaws to include provisions for retaining walls in order to minimize the potential negative impacts of large retaining walls.
The following retaining wall amendments are introduced:

  • Adding a new definition of retaining wall.
  • Introducing regulations for retaining wall heights and terrace depths.

In addition, these bylaws also introduce the following housekeeping amendments:

  • The replacement of the existing definition of Agriculture in Electoral Areas A, B, and D, aligned with Agricultural Land Commission regulations, as required.
  • The addition of Temporary Use Permit language in Electoral Areas A and B, which allows all zones to consider Temporary Use Permits.
  • Updated Local Government Act (LGA) section references for Electoral Areas A and B.
  • The replacement of the existing Driveway Gradient regulations in Electoral Area D with updated regulations.

The entire Electoral Area A, B and D are covered by Bylaws 1692-2020, 1693-2020, and 1694-2020 respectively.

A copy of the proposed bylaws, and relevant background documents may be inspected on the SLRD website.

Inspection of documents at the Regional District office is not possible at this time as the office is closed to the public due to COVID-19.

Third reading of Amendment Bylaws Nos. 1692-2020, 1693-2020, and 1694-2020 is scheduled for March 24, 2021.

All persons who believe that their interests are affected by the proposed bylaws shall be afforded a reasonable opportunity to present written submissions respecting matters contained in the bylaw. Written submissions (mail or email) must be received at the SLRD office no later than 9 am Wednesday March 24, 2021.
