Britannia Substation Upgrade and October 1, 2019 Power Outage

To enable BC Hydro to continue providing secure power to the Britannia Beach area, BC Hydro is rebuilding the aging Britannia Substation. This involves decommissioning the existing substation and building a new substation at the same site. The new substation, which is planned to be in-service in July 2020, will have a smaller footprint than the existing substation and will be able to be expanded as demand grows.

To support redevelopment, a mobile substation has been placed on our right-of-way near the intersection of Thistle Place and Copper Drive. This is the same location where a mobile substation was placed in 2013. A grounded fence has been built around the mobile substation. The mobile substation will remain at this site until construction is complete in July 2020.

A service interruption is required to transfer power from Britannia Substation to the mobile substation on October 1, 2019 from 1-5 p.m.

A second service interruption may be experienced in July 2020 when the mobile substation is being disconnected from the system.
