The building's geothermal system has been experiencing failing victaulic piping in the mechanical room.
Leaks have occurred from the seams of the pipe in the grooved joints, most likely due to corrosion. On two occasions, these leaks have resulted in a complete system failure, including the facility's temporary loss of heating and cooling services.
On Wednesday October 25, at the SLRD Board Meeting, the Board approved the facilitation of repairs to the building's geothermal piping system, and ordered the building's closure to be scheduled at a time with minimal impact and disruption to the public.
The repairs will be financed by the Pemberton & District Community Centre reserve funds.
