Recycle BC has suspended glass packaging (bottles and jars) and foam packaging (white and coloured) collection since November 22, 2021. With transportation corridors compromised due to road closures, Recycle BC cannot move these materials from receiving facilities to end markets.
Not all areas are affected in the same way. Glass packaging collected by GFL in the southern areas of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District is repurposed locally and therefore collection will not be suspended. Area-specific messages below:
Updated collection suspensions:
Pemberton Transfer Station: Glass packaging will be collected and foam packaging will NOT be collected.
The Pemberton Recycling Centre (bottle depot): Glass packaging and foam packaging will NOT be collected.
Devine Transfer Station: Glass packaging and foam packaging will NOT be collected.
Unchanged collection suspensions:
Britannia Beach & Furry Creek Curbside Collection: Glass and foam packaging are NOT accepted as part of the curbside recycling program. Glass depots in the community are still accepting glass packaging. Foam packaging is currently suspended at the Squamish Recycling Depot and Squamish Landfill.
Lillooet Landfill & Recycling Centre: Foam packaging and light bulbs (residential or commercial lights) will NOT be collected. Glass packaging will continue as the items can be stored until collection resumes or capacity is reached.
Gold Bridge: Foam packaging will NOT be collected.
Note: Lillooet Landfill & Recycling Centre foam packaging collection is also suspended and glass packaging will continue as the items can be stored until collection resumes or capacity is reached.
For items currently not accepted at your location please hold on to these materials until the situation is resolved.
