Construction on the Telford Bridge Replacement Project has begun.
The road closure of the Highline Road is currently in effect.
The Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MOTI) advises that the Connel Creek crossing, located on the Highline Road about 13 km southwest of Seton Portage (SLRD Area B) and 14 km north of D'Arcy (SLRD Area C), is completely closed to all traffic - pedestrian and vehicle.
The complete road closure will continue until February 27th, 2017.
Residents on either side of the structure will be required to use Road 40 and Highway 99 during this time.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in constructing a safer structure for this challenging area.
No pedestrian or vehicle traffic will be permitted for the duration of the project. Residents on the north side of Connel Creek (Seton Portage side) will be required to use Mission Mountain Road to Road 40 and on to Lillooet. Residents on the south side of Connel Creek (D'Arcy side) will need to travel south through D'Arcy to access Pemberton Portage Road.
Project timing and rationale:
The Telford Bridge Replacement project is necessary to address present safety concerns and to accommodate legal loading and increased vehicle widths. A winter construction schedule was chosen in order to minimize disruption to the travelling public; there is significantly less traffic on the Highline Road during the winter months. As well, fire season will be avoided, where this route may be needed for evacuation purposes.
