February 11, 209 UPDATE: The arctic outflow warnng has ended for Howe Sound, but continues for Whistler and Pemberton. Wind chill values near minus 20 are expected, along with strong winds.
Environment Canada has issued an Arctic outflow warning.
Within the SLRD, the warning applies to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and Electoral Areas C and D.
Strong outflow winds and cold wind chill values are expected or occurring.
Cold Arctic air will pour out of the mainland inlets and valleys as very strong outflow winds over the North and Central Coasts beginning Friday morning. The Arctic air and outflow winds will push southwards and arrive in Whistler late Friday. Wind chill values near minus 20 are expected by Friday night and persist on Saturday.
Any outdoor activity exposes you to an increased risk of frostbite.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
Be prepared for unusually cold temperatures and strong winds.
