Housing in the SLRD

The SLRD has been experiencing growth pressures and escalating housing costs in recent years which has led to a lack of available and affordable housing. Anecdotally, families are leaving the region and businesses are experiencing worker shortages and difficulties in finding staff to fill available jobs.

In July 2019, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) began moving ahead with the development of a Housing Need and Demand Study for all SLRD electoral areas. This plan is being developed following a successful funding application to the BC Rural Dividend Fund (Fifth Intake). Urban Matters has been engaged to lead the study.

The Housing Need and Demand Study will have three main components:

  • Current Need Analysis
  • Demand Analysis
  • Supply Analysis

As the project moves into the community engagement phase, a series of community workshops have been planned (see schedule below) and a survey will run until October 28, 2019.
