Official Community Plans

The SLRD Planning and Development Services Department is responsible for the Official Community Plan (OCP) bylaws for Electoral Areas A, B, C and D.

What is an Official Community Plan?

An OCP takes into account the long-term vision and goals of the community that it is created for, and is intended to provide a framework to guide future land use decisions and growth. An OCP is developed with the input of the SLRD Board, SLRD staff and community members, and sets out the location, type and density of land use, including residential, commercial, industrial, and other uses. An OCP may also include policies that address economic activities, social needs, and environmental concerns.

Development Permit Area in OCPs

An OCP may designate Development Permit (DP) Areas for environmental protection, protection of development from hazardous conditions, protection of farming areas and to guide the form and character of commercial, industrial or multi-family residential development. If a property is located within a DP Area, a development permit may be required.

If you would like to apply for an amendment to an OCP, please contact the Planning and Development Services Department by emailing: planning@slrd.bc.ca
