Area B, Lillooet & St'at'imc Agricultural Plan

Agricultural Plan

The Agricultural Plan was adopted by the SLRD on October 1, 2014; it is the culmination of a year-long public dialogue concerning the future of agriculture in the Lillooet area. Focus will now shift toward implementation of the plan priorities and recommended actions to realize the vision for agriculture in the area.

“Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area B, District of Lillooet and St'at'imc Traditional Territory, best agricultural region in BC, well known for innovation, sustainability, economic strength and food security - a community worth experiencing.” – Ag Plan Vision, developed by the Working Group

As Board policy, the Agricultural Plan will inform future OCP amendments in Electoral Area B, by aligning the policies with respect to agriculture.  Additionally, it will provide guidance for future policy making and zoning regulations.

Agricultural Plan priorities include:

  • Enhancing the Agricultural Market Viability of the Region;
  • Developing Supportive Policies and Regulations;
  • Fostering Collaboration between the St’at’imc and Farming Community;
  • Promoting Awareness and Education;
  • Supporting Sustainable Agricultural Practices;
  • Encouraging Water Conservation and Climate Change Preparedness and;
  • Creating an Implementation Plan

This Agricultural Plan is unique amongst agricultural plans in BC in that it was developed with extensive input from local indigenous community members. Significant input was also gathered from agricultural community stakeholders and the public - this is a plan made for and by the community.

In 2016, the Agricultural Plan was recognized with a Real Estate Foundation of BC Land Award (Public Sector category) for excellence in land use planning. Download the News Release, and check out the video below to learn more about the planning process.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Area B, District of Lillooet & St’át’imc Agricultural Plan (Ag Plan) Working Group has formed a non-profit society to implement the Ag Plan and advance agricultural economic development in the Lillooet area. The move to form an independent non-profit will also allow for increased access to funding opportunities. The society, called Lillooet Agriculture and Food Society (LAFS), meets regularly, with general membership open to the public.
