Wildfire Fuel Management

The SLRD Wildfire Fuel Management Program is engaged in reducing wildfire fuels on Crown lands throughout the regional district. Since its inception in 2010, the SLRD Wildfire Fuel Management Program has completed several forest fuel management prescriptions and operational treatments in Electoral Areas A, B, and C. Currently the SLRD has fuel management projects underway in Areas B (Texas Creek, Fountain Valley, Pavilion Lake) and Area A (Upper Bridge River Valley - Gun Lake).

Funding for the program comes from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative, and matching funds are provided by each Electoral Area Director. Staff from local BC Wildfire Management Branch fire zones assist in the planning and identification of suitable projects.

The SLRD Emergency Program will seek out wildfire fuel management projects in our region and will apply the Wildfire Fuel Management Projects policy to all projects in order to ensure a clear, consistent, transparent and inclusive process.
