Riverside Wetlands / Ském'em Community Park is a natural area in SLRD Electoral Area C, located within the traditional territory of the Líl'wat Nation, just minutes from downtown Pemberton. The park features rich wetlands, old-growth forest, and excellent bird-watching opportunities.
In 2012, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Ducks Unlimited Canada, and the Nature Trust of British Columbia purchased the 67-acre wetland to protect it for conservation and community use. The land was under development pressure due to growth in the Pemberton area.
Protecting the wetland helps support healthy plants and wildlife, including important habitat for fish and waterfowl. The Líl'wat people have long used the area for cultural and land-based activities, and residents now enjoy it for walking, trail running, mountain biking, and winter snowshoeing.
Ském'em means "to dig edible roots" in Ucwalmícwts, which is the traditional language of the Líl'wat people.
