All local governments in BC are required to complete Housing Needs Reports by April 2022 and every five years thereafter. These reports describe current and anticipated housing needs, and they will help local governments and the Provinical government better understand and respond to housing needs in communities throughout BC.

The SLRD Housing Need and Demand Study was completed in February 2020, following a successful funding application to the BC Rural Divident Fund.

Recommendations from the HNDS have informed amendments to Electoral Area zoning bylaws in support of more diverse and affordable housing; see the project page for details. Implementation of the HNDS will continue, as amendments to Official Community Plans and Regional Growth Strategy must consider these reports and the housing information on which it is based.
