Water Quality Testing

A stewardship program overseen by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy is carrying out ongoing water quality testing of Gun Lake. Sampling will be supported through the BC Lake Stewardship and Monitoring Program. The program samples every two weeks during the ice-free period, from the center of the lake (so it will capture impacts to the entire lake but not shoreline-specific information).

The focus of this monitoring program is on phosphorus and chlorophyll A, which is an indicator for algae growth. This is complementary to the sampling performed by the Gun Lake Ratepayers Association, with minimal overlap. The results will be available on the B.C. Lake Monitoring Portal, where you can view Gun Lake’s most recent results or download full EMS data.

Possible additional water quality monitoring and burned soils analysis along the shoreline of Gun Lake may occur, through an application to the Health Innovation Program.
