The Aboriginal Interest and Use Study was conducted in 2013 as a result of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District’s wish to apply for park use tenure for Riverside Park, which resides on Crown Land in traditional Lil’Wat Nation territory.
The goal of the Aboriginal Interest and Use Study was to gather input from the Lil’wat Nation on their interests concerning Riverside Park and the recently purchased adjacent Riverside Wetlands, in addition to providing recommendations for the ongoing management of the land in order to protect these interests.
Following review of the proposed application for provincial tenure, the Lil’wat Nation agreed to a co-management solution with the SLRD should the application succeed.
