About the program
The FireSmart BC Neighbourhood Recognition Program offers a structured approach for communities to enhance their wildfire resilience and emergency preparedness. - Create a local Neighbourhood FireSmart Committee. The FireSmart Committee will maintains the FireSmart Neighbourhood Plan and tracks its progress or status.
- Contact the SLRD FireSmart team and request a neighbourhood assessment by calling 604-384-7323 or emailing firesmart@slrd.bc.ca.
- The SLRD FireSmart team will support your community in creating a mitigation plan that identifies locally agreed-upon solutions that the neighbourhood can implement.
- Conduct FireSmart events each year that are dedicated to address mitigation goal from the mitigation plan.
- Submit an annual report to FireSmart Canada that documents continuing compliance with the program.
