Agricultural Emergency Preparedness

The SLRD’s Electoral Areas are home to more than 117 commercial farms and ranches, with many more small-scale agricultural holdings contributing to local food security and rural livelihoods. The region’s mountainous terrain, challenging transportation network and limited communication infrastructure in rural and remote areas pose significant challenges during emergencies such as wildfires, flood and landslides – all of which are frequent in the SLRD.

Preparing farms, ranches and rural properties for emergencies helps protect livelihoods, food security and animal welfare. This page contains key resources to support agricultural operators in building resilience to wildfire, flooding and other emergencies.

SLRD Agriculture Emergency Plan

The SLRD Agriculture Emergency Plan outlines how the SLRD supports agricultural operations during emergency events. While the plan is primarily intended as an operational resource for SLRD staff, it may also be useful for farmers, ranchers and community partners seeking to understand the SLRD’s approach to agricultural emergency preparedness and response.
