SLRD Wildfire Updates - 2026

There are multiple wildfires affecting communities across the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District. This is a list of Evacuation Orders and Alerts that are currently issued within the SLRD:

• Evacuation ORDER: Bonanza Creek wildfire (Electoral Area A)
• Evacuation ALERT EXPANDED: Bonanza Creek wildfire (Electoral Area A)
• Evacuation ORDER EXPANDED: Pear Lake wildfire (Electoral Area B)
  • The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) will downgrade some areas in their region from Evacuation Order to Evacuation Alert at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. The Evacuation Order for the Pear Lake wildfire within the SLRD remains in effect and is not being downgraded at this time.

Off-road vehicle restrictions in effect

Effective Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, recreational use of off-road vehicles is prohibited on Crown land throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre and most of the Coastal Fire Centre due to elevated wildfire danger and the number of active fires in B.C.

The prohibition applies to all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and off-road side-by-side vehicles. On-highway vehicles must remain on road surfaces. The prohibition does not apply to private land or national parks. It also does not apply to emergency response, agricultural, commercial or industrial users operating off-road vehicles for farming or business purposes.

More information about the Wildfire Act and Regulation is available online. Report an off-road violation - To report a violation of the ORV prohibition, call the RAPP line at: 1 877 952-7277. You can also digitally report a violation using the online reporting service.

The SLRD Emergency Operations Centre hosted a series of virtual community meetings for residents and property owners affected by wildfires in the SLRD. 

The meetings included updates from BC Wildfire Service and the SLRD EOC, followed by a public question period.

Electoral Area B 

• Pavilion-Clinton Rd closed in both directions between Clinton and Mowich Road due to wildfire.  

Electoral Area C

• In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road access - The In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road is closed to all traffic except local traffic. Access restrictions are in place to support wildfire response operations. Please obey all signage and directions from emergency personnel.
• Evacuation contingency protocols in place for Highway 99 Soo River Bridge construction site - Please read the entire statement on the BC Gov News website. 

• Remove leaves, pine needles and other debris from your roof and gutters.
• Mow grass within 10 metres of the house to 10 centimetres in length, or less.
  Clear all dead plants, leaves, and weeds within 10 metres of your home. Maintain a 1.5 metre non-combustible zone around your home and deck.
• Move combustible items that are within 10 metres of your home including items under decks, propane tanks, doormats, patio furniture, firewood, and potted plants. Move everything into your home or garage.
• If you have a large stationary propane tank located on your property, remove all combustible material surrounding it.
• If you have a combustible fence that attaches to your home secure the gate in an open position and clear vegetation and debris along both sides of combustible fence lines.
• Ensure all vents on the home are in good condition and cover dryer vents and wall-mounted make-up air openings for furnaces with a plywood cover, or non-combustible tape. If you store cardboard boxes and other easily ignited materials near a vent in your attic or crawl space, move them as far away as possible from vent(s) and place non-combustible tape over them. If evacuated, be sure to remove tape when you return home.
• Before evacuating: Turn off air conditioning. Close all doors, garage doors, windows, and skylights. Do not turn off gas unless directed to do so, or if you suspect a gas leak.

If your farm, ranch or agricultural operation is affected by wildfire or evacuation measures, assistance is available to help coordinate livestock, animals and other agriculture-related emergency needs.

• Impacted agricultural producers can contact the SLRD Agricultural Coordinator directly at 604-384-7329. 

Please reach out early if you anticipate needing assistance. Reaching out before an evacuation becomes urgent helps identify needs and coordinate support with response agencies and other partners.

The SLRD also offers resources available to help farmers, ranchers and livestock owners prepare for and respond to emergencies. 

SLRD Agricultural Emergency Preparedness

Taking a few steps now can make it easier to leave safely and access support if an Evacuation Order is issued.

Create or update your Emergency Support Services profile at ess.gov.bc.ca so you can access eligible short-term support more quickly if you are evacuated. If you need help with ESS registration, call the BC Evacuee Helpline at 1-800-387-4258.

Make a transportation plan, check in with anyone who may need help leaving and arrange where you could stay. If you need assistance with transportation, contact the SLRD Public Safety Duty Officer at 604-384-7357 as early as possible.

Canada Post update for wildfire evacuees

Canada Post has confirmed that free mail forwarding is available for residents and businesses affected by wildfire evacuations. To request the free service, affected customers will need to either:

Register at canadapost.ca/mailforward using a credit card; or
Go to any Canada Post office with a government-issued photo ID (mandatory). Proof of authorization is required to request the free service on behalf of another person.

Important notes:

• Customers will be required to purchase the Mail Forwarding service using a credit card. If the postal code is on Canada Post’s list of affected areas, it will flag Canada Post to issue an automatic refund.
• Customers will need to cancel mail forwarding once normal service has resumed. Canada Post will not automatically cancel mail forwarding once evacuation orders have been rescinded.
• Customers can check the Closures and service interruptions and Delivery service alerts pages for updates. We were advised that both red and yellow Canada Post service alerts apply in this situation.
• This free mail forwarding is available anywhere in Canada, for up to one (1) year. If customers have further questions, they can contact Canada Post's Customer Service team online at canadapost.ca/support or by telephone at 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).
