Health Authorities in the SLRD
In British Columbia, health care services are delivered by five regional health authorities. Within the SLRD, two health authorities are responsible for planning and delivering services:
Interior Health Authority serves:
- Electoral Area A
- Electoral Area B
- District of Lillooet
Vancouver Coastal Health Authority serves:
- Electoral Area C
- Electoral Area D
- Village of Pemberton
- Resort Municipality of Whistler
- District of Squamish
Sea to Sky Regional Hospital District
All SLRD residents help fund the construction and equipment of hospitals and health centres through their property taxes. These funds are managed by regional hospital districts, which operate under BC’s Hospital District Act. Hospital districts do not deliver health care services. Their role is to finance capital projects (such as buildings and equipment).
Sea to Sky Regional Hospital District (SSRHD)
- Electoral Area C
- Electoral Area D
- Village of Pemberton
- Resort Municipality of Whistler
- District of Squamish
The Sea to Sky Regional Hospital District was established in 1996 following a provincial restructuring of health region boundaries. The SSRHD Board is made up of the SLRD directors from the participating areas.
SSRHD does not operate any health facilities, but it does provide capital funding, typically shared 60/40 with the Province of BC. Facilities that receive funding through SSRHD include:
Thompson Regional Hospital District
- Electoral Area A
- Electoral Area B
- District of Lillooet
These communities contribute to the Thompson Regional Hospital District, which is administered by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
