Riverside Park is popular recreation area located a short distance from Pemberton, south of the Riverside Wetlands/Ském’em Community Park, and east of the Lillooet River Bridge. Its white beaches and old growth forests provide bikers, dog walkers and all members of the community a quick escape to nature, not far from downtown Pemberton.
The SLRD has applied for tenure with the aim of officially designating the area as a community park so that this well-used recreational and cultural community asset can be retained and enjoyed in perpetuity.
The Riverside Park lands are an important cultural site for the Lil’wat Nation and the area is still used for harvesting of mushrooms and other delicacies. In 2013 an Aboriginal Interest and Use Study was conducted to gather input from the Lil’wat regarding their interests concerning the area. Following review of the proposed application for provincial tenure, the Lil’wat Nation agreed to co-manage the land with the SLRD should tenure be granted by the province.
