The Evacuation ORDER previously in place for residents affected by the Place Glacier Outburst Flood has been rescinded, effective 3:30 p.m. July 21, 2026.
This action was taken based on the most recent monitoring information and reports from technical experts, who advise that the outburst that began on July 19 is complete.
Technical experts advised that based on imagery and instrumentation, there is no remaining water in the glacial lake and streamflows have returned to pre-event levels.
Even though peak flows have passed, and the Evacuation Order has been rescinded, water from overland flooding in some areas may persist in the coming days.
We understand that being on Evacuation Order for any period of time is challenging and causes uncertainty and stress. We appreciate the community’s patience, and support for the emergency measures that were put in place, as we have worked through this event in collaboration with technical experts and partners, and in the interest of public safety.
