Community Update – Wildfires

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) continues to actively monitor several wildfires across the region. Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) staff are working closely with the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) and other response partners to assess wildfire activity, coordinate response efforts, and undertake advance planning to support the safety of residents and visitors.

The following wildfires, as noted on the BC Wildfire Service dashboard, are active in the SLRD:

Electoral Area A

NEW: K71082 (Bonanza Creek)

Electoral Area B

C40983 (Pear Lake)

  • The SLRD has issued an Evacuation ORDER in response to this wildfire.
  • Residents included in the evacuation order area should leave the area.
  • Visitors should return to their primary residence.
  • Emergency Support Services are available to those in the Evacuation Order area through the Canadian Red Cross.
  • Register for Emergency Support Services: https://ess.gov.bc.ca/
  • The reception area is set up at the Clinton Memorial Hall/ 306 Le Bourdais Avenue, Clinton BC/ 250-459-2348.
  • Residents requiring assistance leaving the area are asked to contact the SLRD’s EOC on-call duty manager at: 604-384-7357

  • The previous Evacuation ALERT issued by the SLRD in response to this wildfire has been rescinded.

Wildfire smoke

Wildfire smoke is affecting communities throughout the regional district. Wildfire smoke can have significant health impacts, especially for vulnerable populations. Resources and guidance are available on the Vancouver Coastal Health and Interior Health websites on how to protect your health during wildfire smoke events.

Heat warning

There is a heat warning in effect for parts of the regional district. Heat waves can cause or worsen a number of illnesses and can lead to deaths. Heat-related illness is a broad term for conditions caused by high heat, such as heat rash, sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and the most severe, heat stroke.
