The 2017 Subaru IRONMAN Canada triathlon takes place on Sunday, July 30, 2017.
This is the fifth year that the event will take place in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, specifically in Whistler, the Callaghan Valley (Electoral Area D), Pemberton, and the Pemberton Meadows (Electoral Area C).
The race begins with a two-loop, 2.4 mile (3.8 km) swim in Whistler's Alta Lake, beginning and ending at Rainbow Park. Athletes will then start a one-loop, 112-mile (180 km) bike course that heads south of Whistler on Sea-to-Sky Highway 99 to the beautiful Callaghan Valley, site of the Nordic skiing events during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. After descending back to the highway, athletes will pass through Whistler on the way north to Pemberton. A flat out-and-back section along Pemberton Meadows Road provides stunning views and a brief respite before returning to Whistler. Back in Whistler, athletes will transition to the two-loop 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run course which follows the meandering Valley Trail past Lost Lake and Green Lake. The event concludes at Whistler Olympic Plaza in the heart of Whistler Village. More specific information on the course can be found here.
This is the fourth event in a 5-year agreement between the World Triathlon Corporation and the Resort Municipality of Whistler.
