Evacuation Order and Alert UPDATED for Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659), Electoral Area B

The SLRD has issued an Evacuation Order for properties in the Texas Creek vicinity due to the Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659), based on a recommendation from the BC Wildfire Service.


The Evacuation Order applies to some areas previously under an Evacuation Alert. Anyone within the Evacuation Order area must leave immediately and follow the directions provided in the Order.


The existing Evacuation Alert has also been expanded to include additional properties. Residents within the Evacuation Alert area are not being asked to leave at this time but should be prepared to do so on short notice if conditions worsen.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  • If this is not your primary residence, you should return to your primary residence, if you are able to do so.
  • Accommodation in the area is limited. Make arrangements to stay with family and friends, if possible.
  • If you need assistance, please register for Emergency Support Services online at: https://ess.gov.bc.ca/ or call hotline (1-800-387-4258)
  • Due to the BC Day long weekend, lodging options are extremely limited. If possible, please make arrangements to stay with friends or family outside the evacuation area. 
  • If you require Emergency Support Services (ESS), please self-register through one of the following methods: use the Evacuee Registration & Assistance tool ess.gov.bc.ca; or report to the ESS Reception Centre and group lodging:

    McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre

  • Group lodging is available immediately at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre and ESS registration will open Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 09:00 hrs. 
  • Impacted or concerned agriculture producers are asked to please contact:

  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
