SLRD Statement - Cancellation of 2017 Pemberton Music Festival

May 19, 2017
Affected Communities:
Electoral Area C, Village of Pemberton

"The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District was surprised and disappointed to learn that the Pemberton Music Festival Limited Partnership had filed for bankruptcy and that the Festival will not proceed as scheduled this summer.

It’s difficult to quantify the economic impact of the Festival, but there’s no doubt it was substantial. The Festival brought a tremendous amount of exposure to Pemberton, and to our region as a whole. As well, it created local jobs, provided economic opportunities for local businesses, and generated significant revenue for local community organizations through the Pemberton Music Festival Community Fund. Not to mention, it was a fun and exciting event that many residents looked forward to each year. It’s a big loss for the community.

We are also sensitive to the fact that many local and regional ticket holders and vendors will be financially impacted by this decision. It’s a very unfortunate situation."

- Jack Crompton, SLRD Board Chair
