The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District recognizes the importance of improving access to housing for all. Affordable housing is recognized as a Strategic Priority Area under Community Well-Being and Liveability in the SLRD Strategic Plan (2024-2026). The SLRD Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) includes Goal 3: Generate a Range of Quality Affordable Housing. Opportunities to secure affordable housing, such as implementing inclusionary zoning requirements, are explored as part of consideration of development applications and through the zoning amendment process.
Recent SLRD work in this area has included the development of a 2024 Housing Need and Demand Study as well as bylaw updates to reflect the Small Scale Multi Unit Housing legislation enacted by the Province under Bill 44.
