Between April and November each year, the SLRD FireSmart program organizes and hosts wildfire risk reduction events in communities and stratas throughout the SLRD.

FireSmart Education Day
During a FireSmart Education Day, our team will host a BBQ, provide public education and distribute important wildfire safety material to all participants.
Coordinate a group of at least five neighbours and send an email to firesmart@slrd.bc.ca to book an event. Priority may be given to neighbourhoods actively participating in the FireSmart Neighbourhood Recognition Program.
FireSmart Clean-up Day
During a FireSmart Clean-up Day, homeowners work to reduce and remove vegetation in their immediate zone (1-2m from the structure) or in critical areas of a neighbourhood or strata such as egress routes and muster areas. On the scheduled event date, our team will host a BBQ, distribute important FireSmart information and provide a green bin receptacle for the community to dispose of their vegetation debris.
Coordinate a group of at least 5 neighbours and send an email to firesmart@slrd.bc.ca to book an event. Priority may be given to neighbourhoods actively participating in the FireSmart Neighbourhood Recognition Program.
