Tender awarded to Whistler’s Munster Construction; fabrication of aluminum dock sections underway
Work has begun on the fabrication of two new metal docks for Anderson Lake in D’Arcy, in Electoral Area C, after the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Board awarded the contract for installing new docks and a boat ramp at its January 25, 2017 meeting. It is hoped that the new docks and boat ramp will be in place in time for the May 24 long weekend, the unofficial kick-off to summer.
The Anderson Lake docks, two increasingly decrepit side‐by‐side wooden structures separated by a concrete boat launch have lived a long and full life, providing public access to lake users and owners of recreational property along Anderson Lake.
“I’m sure the community will be pleased to hear they are now officially retiring from service,” says SLRD Area C Director Russell Mack. “Since 1982, the D’Arcy public dock has been a labour of love for members of the D’Arcy community and property owners on Anderson Lake.”
As the state of disrepair of the facility grew in concert with usage demands, community members expressed concern about the condition of the orphan dock and boat launch.
Resolving the Anderson Lake Docks and Boat Launch situation was identified as a priority by the SLRD Board in 2015. The SLRD was able to acquire tenure over the docks from the Province in August 2016. The required permits to construct the facility were then secured from the various agencies involved.
The contract for replacing the docks was awarded at the SLRD’s January 25, 2017 meeting to Whistler-based Munster Construction and Management Ltd. Munster has worked on Anderson Lake before and built the dock at McGillvray Falls. The company has been in operation for 38 years, winning two gold Georgie Awards for its construction projects.
Fabrication of the aluminium dock sections got underway last week. Once the sections are ready, the construction crew will get started on-site. The docks will be removed and replaced one at a time, in order to keep one working dock open during the construction period.
