What is the Regional Growth Strategy?
The Regional Growth Strategy guides how the SLRD grows and develops over the long term, helping partner communities work together to manage growth, protect natural areas and farmland, and support sustainable, livable communities.

How the Regional Growth Strategy is Used
The Regional Growth Strategy provides a long-term regional framework to guide future growth, land use and decision-making across the Squamish-Lillooet region.
The strategy supports collaboration between the SLRD and member municipalities and helps guide:
- Official Community Plans (OCPs)
- Regional infrastructure planning
- Transportation and mobility planning
- Climate and environmental initiatives
- Housing and growth management
- Regional services and collaboration
Successful implementation of the RGS relies on local plans, policies, and programs that support shared regional goals and priorities.
Regional Growth Strategy Mapping
The Regional Growth Strategy maps show where people live and identify areas for future growth, transportation connections, environmental protection, agriculture, recreation and other regional priorities.
The maps provide a high-level regional framework and are intended to work alongside local Official Community Plans (OCPs), zoning bylaws and other planning documents.

Why It Matters
Many regional issues extend beyond municipal or electoral area boundaries. The Regional Growth Strategy helps communities plan together for future growth while protecting the natural environment, supporting resilient communities and maintaining the region’s unique character.
