Electoral Area C Zoning Amendment Project (BL 1742-2022)

Electoral Area C

Project Overview

As a result of changes to the Agricultural Land Commission Act (ALCA) and Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) Use and General Regulations, the SLRD needs to update zoning bylaws to be in alignment with the Provincial regulatory framework. Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1742-2022 seeks to incorporate these necessary changes into the existing Area C Zoning Bylaw, as well as a number of additional amendments proposed to streamline and update the bylaw.

There are two sets of key content changes:

  • Compliance with Regulations: Aligning the bylaw with Provincial regulations related to agriculture, including provisions for cannabis production, cannabis retail, and residential use of ALR land.
  • Additional amendments: These amendments are largely intended to create consistency and clarity within the bylaw. Proposed amendments include changes to the gross floor area calculation, height regulations, and other minor amendments such as additions or amendments to definitions and permitted uses within the bylaw. Proposed changes to height regulations include creating separate height regulations for different uses within each zone.

Current Status

At their meeting on May 24, 2023, the SLRD Board passed the following resolutions:

  • THAT Bylaw No. 1742-2022, cited as “Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area C Zoning Bylaw No. 765, 2002, Amendment Bylaw No. 1742- 2022”, be adopted.
