The Pemberton Music Festival is taking place July 16 - 20, 2014. Up to 30,000 spectators are expected to attend the event.
Pre-event traffic impacts
A key piece of the traffic management plan is the installation of a pedestrian bridge over Highway 99. The bridge will be installed the evening of Thursday, July 10. Expect traffic slowdowns during the installation from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. A brief road closure will be required as the overpass sections are lifted into place. The closure is expected to take place sometime between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m and is expected to last about 30 - 40 minutes.
Festival weekend
Local residents are encouraged to leave their vehicles at home and plan ahead to ensure they have adequate supplies on hand in advance of the 4-day festival. And those needing to travel past the festival site during the weekend should expect some congestion.
Organizers will be implementing a traffic management plan that includes staggering the arrivals of campers and the ability to stage up to 4 km of vehicles off the highway as they enter the site. In addition, shuttles for festival goers will be running to and from Whistler over the course of the event. As a result, traffic impacts should be substantially reduced in comparison to the 2008 event.
Camper arrivals are anticipated as follows:
Wednesday, July 16th (camping opens at 2:00 p.m.): Estimated arrivals: 25%
Thursday, July 17th: Estimated arrivals: 50%
Friday, July 18th: Estimated arrivals: 25%
