The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has unveiled a new website making it easier to use, find information and engage with the SLRD online. Developed using responsive technology, the new website will also provide a seamless experience for those using smartphones and tablets to access information.

“How we communicate and engage with our citizens and stakeholders is fundamental to our ability to govern effectively and provide important services to the residents of the region,” says Patricia Heintzman, SLRD Board Chair. “And having a comprehensive and informative online presence is particularly important in a region as vast and diverse as the SLRD. As people explore and discover the news website with its intuitive design, informative content and practical search tools, it will become a vital resource for our constituents and stakeholders.”

The new website puts the user first, offering enhanced content and several ways to navigate the site, including user-centric drop-down menus, “I Want To” menu, “A – Z” directory and a site map. Additional highlights include: dynamic homepage design with quick links to maps, news and events feeds, meeting calendars, maps, bylaws and emergency information; electoral area and municipality-specific pages; Board and staff directories; searchable bylaw, report, policy and current project directories as well as social media integration.

The SLRD worked with award-winning Upanup Studios out of Victoria, BC to redevelop the site. The project began in 2013 when SLRD staff conducted research, including surveying and a review of best practices, to identify user needs and determine functional and content requirements. The rebuild began in February 2014 and took about five months. The project was completed on time and on budget, with the total project cost not expected to exceed $50,000.

Content in some sections of the website is still being added; the website will continue to be improved to meet the needs and expectations of users, as well as to take advantage of new technology. The SLRD has created a Website Feedback Survey to encourage users to help make the site as user-friendly and informative as possible.
