This year, the Provincial Government decommissioned the Utopia Lake and Park Lane dams on Britannia Creek and partially decommissioned the Tunnel dam, eliminating some of the biggest debris flood risks in the Britannia Creek watershed.

Crews will decommission the Mountain Lake dam next summer. The Province is currently consulting with stakeholders about the best course of action at the Mineral Creek, Lower and Thistle Creek dams. Preliminary work is expected to start soon.

The work is part of a plan to decommission the deteriorating dams associated with the historic mining site. The dams were built to supply power to the Britannia Mine but have been abandoned since the mine closed in 1974.

People with questions about the work are asked to contact Bruce O'Neill, Project Director - Provincial Dam Interests at the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (Resource Stewardship Division): Bruce.ONeill@gov.bc.ca
