The Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MOTI) is currently replacing the Telford Bridge over Connel Creek, located on the Douglas Trail Road (formerly called the Highline Road) about 13 km southwest of Seton Portage (SLRD Area B) and 14 km north of D'Arcy (SLRD Area C).
The Douglas Trail Road (commonly known as the Highline Road) has been closed to all traffic - pedestrian and vehicule - at the location of the Telford Bridge since 1 December 2016.
The Highline will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to take about 3 months. A detour bridge at the site is not possible due to the narrow width of the road and the restricted work space.
The official completion date for the project was 28 February, 2017, but it is now anticipated that it might go until 11 March, 2017.
Update as of February 6, 2017 (Week 9)
On Monday, February 6, the Cariboo District branch of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure shared the latest update from the bridge engineers, who have now fully dismantled the old bailey bridge and successfully launched six sections of the acrow of the new bridge, complete with grout bearing plates, bearings and deck stringers. The location and confined area make the work slow and challenging - it takes a 12 hour shift, employing 8 workers, to assemble and disassemble 2-10 foot segments from each end and complete the launch. Given the conditions, the engineers are pleased with the progress and the crew's efforts.
Residents on either side of the structure will be required to use Road 40 and Highway 99 during this time.
No pedestrian or vehicle traffic will be permitted for the duration of the project. Residents on the north side of Connel Creek (Seton Portage side) will be required to use Mission Mountain Road to Road 40 and on to Lillooet. Residents on the south side of Connel Creek (D'Arcy side) will need to travel south through D'Arcy to access Pemberton Portage Road.
