With Environment Canada forecasting continued cold temperatures for the remainder of week through New Year’s Eve and into the weekend, the Resort Municipality of Whistler has issued a Cold Weather Alert, encouraging everyone to keep an eye out for people who may be not equipped to withstand the cold.

The resort community is filled with visitors, seasonal, part time and permanent residents and some people may not be prepared for the cold, or find themselves in a situation where they could be at risk in the cold.

“We encourage people to look out for anyone who may be in danger, with a focus on people who may be out late at night, and possibly alone,” said Fire Chief Geoff Playfair. “From time to time we see people whose lives may be at risk if they were outside for an extended period of time, the cold may make an otherwise harmless situation become much more serious.”
