Squamish-Lillooet Regional District launches online mapping system
Award-nominated mapping platform brings streamlined planning services to the public
Pemberton, BC - The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) announced the launch of a new interactive mapping tool this week. The SLRD Web Map is based on a Geographic Information System (GIS) that allows users to view and analyze public geographic information online. The new system was developed to advance the efficiency and quality of information provided by SLRD planning services.
Anyone can now log on from their personal computers to access mapping, which includes addressing, Zoning, Official Community Plan, Agricultural Land Reserve, and other information that was previously only available in hard copy at the SLRD office, or stored within databases of external agencies. The SLRD Web Map contains tools that allow users to pan over neighbourhoods, calculate distances, determine elevation profiles, check detailed property information and assessments, and see aerial views of any location in the region.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this new service to the public,” says Patricia Heintzman, SLRD Board Chair. “Not only will it save people a trip to our office, but it will also improve the quality and completeness of information that we deliver to property owners and constituents in our region.”
The map was created over the last year by Nanaimo-based Coastal Resource Mapping Ltd, in collaboration with the SLRD. The map has recently been nominated for an award of excellence by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), an international supplier of GIS software, web GIS and geodatabase management applications. The award winners will be announced at the ESRI Victoria User Conference, taking place April 8 – 9, 2014 in Victoria, BC.
